100 Things to do in Savannah

February 20, 2015 by

One of the best things about living at WaterWays Township is it’s just a hop, skip and jump to Savannah – one of the most historically rich cities in the South. Just 30 miles north of WaterWays, Savannah offers ample opportunities to explore the city on the river. Whether you’re a fan of art, theater, dining or even Forest Gump, there’s something in Savannah for everyone.

  • Life is like a box of chocolates – Forest Gump’s infamous scenes on the bus stop bench were filmed at Chippewa Square, right in the heart of historic Savannah. Although the bench itself was a movie prop, it’s still available for viewing at the Savannah History Museum.
  • Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil – Published in 1994, this book was (and is still) the longest standing New York Times Best Seller, standing in at a whopping 216 weeks following its debut. You’re sure to find a copy at one of the many local book stores, or download it directly to your device from Amazon.
  • Don’t be a weenie – Race on over to the annual Savannah Wiener Dog Race this October, and stick around for their annual puppy costume contest. You’ll be hard pressed to find anything more adorable.
  • Green with envy – St. Patrick’s Day is the biggest holiday in Savannah. The locals celebrate with green beer, the greening of the fountain and of course, the annual St. Patty’s Day parade. For newcomers to the area, this is not to be missed!
